Shrinkwrap Used for exterior and Interior applications, Shrinkwrap is a linear, low-density extruded polyethylene material. One thing to be aware of when purchasing shrinkwrap, is that some extruders use additives in their shrinkwrap to reduce their costs. Some extruders also use reprocessed (recycled) resin in the plastic. Any of these items seriously alter the quality and effectiveness of the shrinkwrap. You must be certain that the shrinkwrap you purchase is 100% virgin material. Another additive that can be put into shrinkwrap during extrusion is Ultra Violet Inhibitor (UVI). This is an important additive. Not only does it prevent the UV rays from damaging the item underneath the cover, but it also prevents premature breakdown of the shrinkwrap itself (especially in exterior applications). Shrinkwrap, with the use of heat, shrinks and conforms to whatever structure and/or item is underneath it. It shrinks in both length and width up to 50%X50%. Shrinking the plastic causes its consistency to change dramatically, making it thicker and very taut. One question that is posed frequently is Why not visquayne? Shrinkwrap is a non-porous material, which is a very important factor. When shrinkwrap is used the contractor can be confident that they have achieved complete containment, as long as the job has been completed in a correct and professional manner.
